Government Polytechnic Katihar is a full-fledged Government institution under the administrative control of the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education, Patna, Bihar, and functions accordingly. However, in academic and related areas, the institute remains responsive and actively participates in the decisions and deliberations of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and other apex bodies such as the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), the State Board of Technical Education (SBTE), and the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education.
This ensures continuous innovation in the pedagogical and practical aspects of technical education. The administration and management of the institute are aligned with these objectives.
The Principal is the overall in-charge of all activities and operations of the institute. For smooth functioning and efficient administration, various service departments operate under the supervision of competent lecturers with proven capabilities.
